Blue Lagoon Island stars in recent photo shoot

With most of the country’s population living on New Providence, it can be nearly impossible to get the secluded island feel that both Bahamians and visitors crave from time to time. Fortunately, Blue Lagoon Island has that arena covered. Though popular as a family-friendly daytime destination complete with aqua and land parks, dolphin and sea lion encounter programs and lagoon-based activities, like kayaking and snorkeling, the island certainly holds its own for those in search of a tranquil day away.

Its calming and restorative properties make it the ideal venue for the annual Salt Cay Writers Retreat, a week-long writers retreat offering unpublished authors the chance to learn from and rub elbows with literary royalty. And for those who aren’t wordsmiths, Blue Lagoon Island’s quiet spots offer a plethora of photo opps – just ask the photographers and models of South Moon Under, who recently shot the chic clothing retailer’s spring 2015 look book on the shores of the lagoon.

The always camera-ready Blue Lagoon Island has been featured in a number of international films, advertisements and music videos. You might recognize its crystalline water and idyllic greenery in movies like “Splash”, starring Tom Hanks, Darryl Hannah and John Candy, or “Holiday In The Sun”, starring Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen.

In 2013, the H&M video featuring megastar Beyonce’s single “Standing on the Sun” was shot exclusively on the island to promote the singer’s 2013 H&M summer collection. Alongside Beyonce’s musical abilities and fashion sense, the video showcases four dynamic locations on Blue Lagoon Island, including the lagoon beach, clusters of elegant coconut palms, an onsite helipad with unobstructed 360 degree views of the ocean and a charming pocket beach on the island’s northern side.

Cosmopolitan, Glamour, Kipling, and Penn and Teller have also used the island as a location for photo shoots. Dolphin Encounters and Blue Lagoon Island have appeared on E! MTV, CNN, NBC, GMTV, CBS and in numerous magazine and newspapers. With unspoiled natural beaches, rugged terrain with native plants, ocean views and extraordinary animals, Dolphin Encounters and Blue Lagoon Island afford unmatched shooting opportunities within a short flight from the U.S.
